Population

The Fort Collins-Loveland Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 89,900 in 1970 to 299,630 in 2010. That was an increase of 233.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 2,011 in 1970 to 15,412 in 2010. That was an increase of 666.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 2.2 percent to 5.1 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 223.4 percent.

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the major factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NDM continued to be the primary factor in adding population.
